Joseph Charles Vertar

March 2, 1926 - April 27, 2012

Joseph Charles Vertar, 86, of Jonesville, Michigan passed away Friday, April 27, 2012, at the McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility in Hillsdale, Michigan. He was born March 2, 1926 in Bentleyville, Pennsylvania to Ignatz & Theresa (Grgurich) Vertar. He was married December 2, 1961 to Goldie A. (Gacy) Lengel, the Class of 1948 valedictorian of Bentleyville High School, and she preceded him in death August 7, 2007.

Joseph was a lathe operator for the Ford Motor Company working in the Livonia Transmission Plant from 1966 - 1991. He was a Navy Seabee serving during WWII and the Korean Conflict as a Carpenter's Mate 3rd Class, ACB-1 in the 76th Construction Battalion. He was a member of the VFW in Northville and a former member of the American Legion.

Surviving is a daughter, Terri (Jim) Zaas of Jonesville; a grandson, Joey Zaas; six nieces/nephews and three great-nieces.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, wife Goldie; sister, Catherine Nuccetelli of Scenery Hill, Pennsylvania; and brothers, Mike Vertar of Hemet, California and John Vertar of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

At Joseph's request, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or calling hours at this time. Private memorial services will take place at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
