Vera Louise Hibbard

Vera Louise Hibbard, 91, of N. Fayette St., Fayette, died Sunday evening, May 27, 2012, at the University of Toledo Medical Center in Toledo, OH, where she had been a patient for several weeks. She was born on June 10, 1920, in Beaufort, NC to the late Joseph C. and Merle C. (Pelletier) Hill. Vera married the love of her life, Durwood G. “Woody” Hibbard on December 30, 1944 in Bridgeton, NC, and he preceded her in death on July 23, 2011.

Vera lived her early life in North Carolina, where she attended high school and Lewisburg College. Woody and Vera later moved to Fayette with their young family. Vera was a charter member of the Fayette Firebelles, and a member of the Fayette Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family, taking trips back to North Carolina, as well as sewing, bingo, and puzzles. Vera was a member of the Fayette United Methodist Church.

Surviving Vera are her three sons, W. Frank (Alice) Hibbard of Noblesville, IN, Durwood “Galen” Jr. (Jane) Hibbard of Stryker, OH, and Kenneth R. (Pam) Hibbard of Fayette; two brothers, Jessie Frederick (Angeline) Hill of Alliance, NC, and William Tolson Hill of Bridgeton, NC; two sisters, Janice Fruchey and Daveta Cuthrell both of Bridgeton, NC; seven grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, and husband, Woody, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Norma Hibbard, Virginia Freeman, and Doris Sadler; and a brother, Calvin Hill.

A funeral service for Vera Hibbard will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home-Barrett Chapel in Fayette with Pastor Katherine Currier officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Wednesday afternoon, from 4-8 p.m.
